Dr. Alissa K Davies, DPT

"Medicine adds days to life. Physical therapy adds life to days."

My Story

I received my B.S. in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine with a minor in Biology from Bowling Green State University in 2003. I attended Bowling Green State University on a full athletic scholarship for swimming all four years, competing in the 2003 US Open and 2004 Senior Nationals and qualifying for the Olympic Trials in 2004.

I continued my professional training at Oakland University, earning her Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy in 2009 and receiving the Beth C Marcoux Research Excellence Award for her dissertation work. I am  a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist (OCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties, specializing in sports injuries, muscular imbalances, and extremity dysfunctions. I also hold certifications as an Athletic Trainer (ATC), Certified in Integrative Dry Needling (CIDN), Certified in Applied Functional Science (CAFS), Specialized Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) level 1 practitioner, Performance Enhancement Specialist through NASM, and Certified in Functional Movement Techniques and Rocktape application.

I have over 15 years of clinical experience in general orthopedics, neurology, sports medicine, pre-/post surgical care, sport-specific rehabilitation, performance enhancement/optimization, wellness training, injury prevention, women’s health, and neurological pathologies. She has wide-ranging experience treating patients of all ages and across all activity levels, from sedentary to highly active populations, including national caliber/professional/semi-pro/collegiate athletes, ultra-athletes, and military personnel.

I evaluate and treat with a whole-body approach that combines knowledge and understanding of localized anatomy and function within the context of whole-body structure, function, and movement patterns. She works to restore compromised mobility, strength, stability, and movement patterning through a variety of manual therapy techniques such as myofascial release, Graston, cupping, soft-tissue mobilization, joint mobilization, neuromuscular re-education, progressive exercise, dry needling, blood flow restriction training, and patient education. I enjoy developing a solid rapport with my patients, solving clinical problems, and watching them progress to activities they need, want, and aspire to do.

I would describe myself as a self-professed “biomechanics enthusiast” with a passion for learning new treatment and training techniques, perspectives, and the latest research to provide her patients with cutting-edge care.

Outside of the clinic, I continue to swim, participate in, train for, and compete in CrossFit and Olympic Lifting, be an outdoor enthusiast, travel, and spend time with my family and friends.
